AMP for Email lets you send interactive content right inside the inbox: forms, carousels, accordions, live product data. The catch is that Gmail and Yahoo will not render AMP from a sender they have not reviewed. Until your address is whitelisted, those mailboxes fall back to the plain HTML version of your email.
This guide covers the application from start to finish. Most senders hear back from Google within 5 to 10 business days. If you send through Convertic.ai, we run the application for you once you give us the right access. If you send through another platform, the same steps work, you just file the form yourself.
Why Gmail and Yahoo require whitelisting
Whitelisting exists because AMP can fetch and update content from your servers in real time. Google reviews each sender to confirm the domain is established, the templates pass AMP validation, and the use cases match what the spec actually allows.
Approval is granted per sender address, not per domain. If you send from team@example.com and also from offers@example.com, both need their own application. The upside is that approval is permanent. There is no annual renewal.
Before you apply: prerequisites
You need all of the following before you submit the form. Skipping any one of them is the most common reason applications get bounced back.
- An AMP-capable email built and validated against the AMP for Email spec.
- A verified sending domain with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC passing on every send.
- Access to your sending platform. Convertic.ai users can grant editor access to
support@convertic.ai. Klaviyo, Mailchimp, and other ESPs follow the same flow inside their own tool. - Ability to suppress test addresses from regular campaigns. The two test inboxes should only ever receive the test message.
- A Gmail inbox you control. Google sends the approval reply to the contact address you put on the form.
Gmail whitelisting, step by step
Six steps. Plan on a couple of hours of focused work, plus the 5 to 10 day wait at the end.
Confirm AMP support is on in your sending platform
Convertic.ai turns AMP on by default. Klaviyo requires you to email their support team to enable AMP templates on your account. Mailchimp and most other ESPs vary, so check their documentation. Whatever you use, you should be able to build, preview, and send an AMP version of an email before you continue.
Build a test list with three contacts
Create a fresh list in your platform with these three addresses, in this order:
- Your own Gmail (the inbox where you will check the rendered AMP)
ampforemail.whitelisting@gmail.com(Google review address)ampverification@yahoo.com(Yahoo review address)
Keep this list separate from any other list. The two review addresses should only ever receive the test campaign in step 3.
Send a production-quality test campaign
Use a real subject line, a real from name, a real preheader, and your finished AMP template. Reviewers grade the campaign as if it were going to a paying customer. A blank subject like "amp test" is the most common reason an application gets rejected on the first pass.
Suppress the test addresses from your regular sends
Add the Google and Yahoo review addresses to your platform's suppression list immediately after step 3. They should only ever get that one test message. If they start receiving your weekly newsletter or transactional sends, the application gets delayed.
Submit the Google AMP for Email registration form
Open the official form at developers.google.com/workspace/gmail/ampemail/register. Work through these sections:
- Sender details. The exact email address you sent the test from, plus your sending domain.
- Use cases. Pick what you actually do. Common picks are abandoned cart, newsletters, product updates, surveys, and feedback collection. Do not check boxes for use cases you do not actually use, reviewers do verify.
- Yahoo questions. A short list about your unsubscribe practices and list hygiene. Yahoo and Google share the same form, so answer truthfully and you cover both providers at once.
- Mail.ru section. Skip unless you actively send into the Russian market. Most senders leave it blank.
- Sample test. Paste the message ID or the from-address you used in step 3 so reviewers can find the message they already received.
support@convertic.ai on your sending platform and our deliverability team handles the submission, monitors the reply, and emails you the moment approval lands.Wait for the reply from noreply@google.com
Google sends the answer to the contact address on the form. Most senders hear back in 5 to 10 business days. The reply is short, two or three lines, with either an approval, a request for more info, or a rejection along with the reason. Save the email either way, you may need it later.
Yahoo whitelisting
Yahoo does not run a separate form. The Google form covers both providers. The Yahoo-specific questions inside it ask about unsubscribe handling, complaint rates, and list-acquisition practices. Answer them honestly and your Yahoo application moves forward at the same time as Gmail. The confirmation email usually mentions both providers in the same reply.
A note on Mail.ru
Mail.ru runs a separate AMP program for senders into the Russian market. The Google form has a Mail.ru section that hands the application off, but most senders should leave that section blank. If you do send into Russia, fill it in and expect a separate confirmation from Mail.ru on its own timeline.
How to confirm you have been approved
Three signals tell you the address is live:
- A reply from
noreply@google.comconfirming approval. Save it. If you ever switch ESPs and need to prove the address is approved, this email is your evidence. - A small lightning-bolt icon next to your sender name in the Gmail message header. If the icon is there, AMP is rendering for that recipient.
- A second test send (to your own Gmail, with no developer settings turned on) renders the interactive version, not the HTML fallback.
Previewing AMP before approval
While the application is in review you can still render AMP in your own Gmail. Add yourself as an allowed developer:
- Open Gmail in a browser. Click the gear icon, then "See all settings".
- Open the General tab and scroll to the "Dynamic email" section.
- Click "Developer settings" and add the from-address you are testing.
This only renders AMP for you. It does not whitelist the address for anyone else, and it does not replace the official application.
Troubleshooting and FAQ
What happens if I send AMP before I'm approved?
Nothing breaks. Gmail and Yahoo render the HTML fallback you bundle with the AMP version. Apple Mail, Outlook desktop, and clients that ignore AMP entirely use HTML anyway. You can keep sending interactive emails to your full list while the application is in review, the AMP version just will not render for Gmail and Yahoo recipients yet.
I have not heard back after 10 days, what now?
Check the inbox of the contact email you put on the form. Replies sometimes land in the spam folder. If the reply is not there after 14 days, send a polite follow-up to amp-for-email-support@google.com referencing your sender address. Convertic.ai customers do not need to do this themselves, our team handles follow-ups.
Do I need to re-apply if I switch ESPs?
Not if the sender address stays the same. Approval is tied to the from-address, not to the platform that sends from it. You can move from Mailchimp to Convertic.ai, or from Klaviyo to Mailchimp, without touching your AMP approval.
Can multiple sender addresses share one approval?
No. Each address is approved on its own. team@example.com and offers@example.com need two separate applications. If you send AMP from both, plan for two test campaigns and two form submissions.
Does whitelisting expire?
No. Once Google approves a sender, the approval stands. The exception is if the address gets flagged for abuse, in which case it can be revoked. Keep your complaint rate low and your unsubscribe handling clean and you will not see this happen.
Is the process the same for Yahoo?
Yes. Yahoo uses the Google form. The Yahoo-specific questions live on the same page as the Gmail questions. There is no separate Yahoo application.
If filing the application yourself sounds like more work than you want to take on, that is what we are here for. Sign up at app.convertic.ai/users/register, grant editor access to support@convertic.ai on your sending platform, and we run the test campaign, file the form, and email you the moment approval lands. Most of our customers go from sign-up to interactive AMP in one or two weeks.
